TERRA DI SIENA FILM FESTIVAL
PRESENTATO DALLA DIRETTRICE MARIA PIA CORBELLI
Introduction to the Festival "Terra di Siena International Film Festival"
Presented by the Manager, Maria Pia Corbelli
Founded in 1996 and focused on the independent Film Industry, in the last four years the Terra di Siena International Film Festival has chosen to privilege social, political and universal issues, such as violated childhood, environmental protection, human rights and peace. International film stars such as Andy Garcia, Emir Kusturica, Bob Rafelson, Eric Roberts, Peter Greenaway, Roman Polansky, Colin Firth as well as Italian ones such as Giancarlo Giannini, Bernardo Bertolucci, Dino Risi, Mario Monicelli, Laura Morante, Lucia Bosè, Stefania Sandrelli, Silvio Orlando, Massimo Ghini, Stefano Accorsi, Maya Sansa, Giovanna Ralli, Nino Manfredi, Manuel De Sica and many more, with their direct experience they all have enriched the Festival, whose jury is composed of the students of the Università degli Studi di Siena, partner of the Festival. This is a very important opportunity for the students to get in touch with both the Italian and the International Film Industry and to share the critical and theoretical view of experts such as historians and critics of specialized magazines, in order to place a concrete judgment to the competition entries. The winner will receive the Senese D’oro, the ancient medal of the Republic of Siena. Further prizes of the show, which this year is dedicated to the screenwriter Piero De Bernardi, good old friend and supporter of the Festival, are the prize Music Feel, which goes to the winner chosen by the audience, and the Critics Award, this year dedicated to Gregorio Napoli and which is given by the jury. Among the collateral events there will be five evenings with auteur films and movies by newcomer directors; we will start with Carlo Lizzani, which will participate at the event on September 15, that takes place in the Castellare de’ Noveschi in the medieval borough of San Sano nel Chianti (prestigious location of the 5 evenings of cinema under the stars).
